HUMAN RIGHTS IN CHINA
Human Rights in China (HRIC), the leading human rights NGO on China with offices in Hong Kong and New York, is seeking a committed, energetic and bilingual (English and Mandarin) professional to fill the position of
Program Associate
in our Hong Kong office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Media
# Track English- and Chinese-language human rights-related news in the media, websites, forums, and blogs on a daily basis;
# Compile daily news briefs and write press releases and other communications products;
# Translate reports, press releases, articles and other communication products;
· Research
# Research a wide range of issues covered by the organization through monitoring Chinese mainland-based newspapers, websites, journals, and other sources;
· Advocacy
# Support HRIC's advocacy and outreach efforts;
# Assist in drafting submissions to the United Nations and other international bodies;
# Develop multimedia resources for HRIC's websites.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must be committed to HRIC's mission and interested in working in a friendly, high-energy, collaborative NGO that maintains the highest professional standards in public interest work. The candidate:
· must hold a B.A. or equivalent. M.A. in relevant discipline, experience in media, journalism or relevant human rights advocacy experience preferred;
· must be fluent in English and Chinese (Mandarin); native-level Chinese language ability preferred; familiarity with both simplified and traditional Chinese characters will be an advantage;
· must have a demonstrated interest in China and in human rights advocacy;
· must be organized, detail-oriented and a self-starter who is comfortable handling multiple tasks;
· should have proficiency in researching Chinese-language mainland-based media and academic material;
· should be knowledgeable about mainland China; a strong interest in Chinese politics preferred.
